Sure enough, I passed by one home where the owners, obviously newly moved in, were cleaning out the yard and piling chicken wire and all sorts of rotting wood at the front. Underneath the pile I spotted what looked like a lattice. No! Wait a minute! A metal trellis! Bingo! I quickly made a U turn and another so I could pull up to the curb. I politely asked if I could have it, not knowing what I’d do with one trellis but it was a start. The owner explained that there were three more coming out and I could have them all! What was intriguing about these were the gorgeous design! Leaves! If you don’t know by know, I have a ‘thing’ for plants. My curtain rod finals throughout the house are leaves, and well, I couldn’t believe my luck! The pattern was actually a silhouette of peace lilies to the best of my knowledge. They had been painted at one time forest green, the paint was chipping where rust had taken hold, but the metal itself was intact. There were even pins and sockets where they could be attached together like a hinge. Bonus! Not only that but the owner helped me load them into my car. On a whim I also grabbed the chicken wire that was rolled loosely around a stick. Somewhere in my mind another project is taking form; what, I don’t know.
Happy with my curbside finds, I joyfully drove the rest of the way home, my mind swimming with ideas for even more garden projects. Here are two shown in the picture below that I couldn't wait to try on for size!
It took some work and whatever hardware I had to secure things, and for now it works!
